Tudor board (also called mock Tudor board) recreates the classic exposed timber beams of traditional Tudor architecture. While original Tudor beams were structural, modern versions are almost always decorative.

They are used to clad exterior walls and gables on both period properties and new builds, delivering the authentic timbered look without the rot, warping or ongoing maintenance of real wood.

What is the difference between your uPVC and polyurethane Mock Tudor Board?

We offer two distinct ranges:

  • Polyurethane Replica Wood (our premium range) – moulded from real English oak for a deep, authentic woodgrain texture. Colour is solid throughout and chemically bonded to the core. Lightweight, highly weather-resistant, and carries a 15-year guarantee.
  • uPVC Tudor Board – a more economical option with a woodgrain foil applied to three faces over a white core. Thinner profile, longer standard lengths (5 m), and a 10-year guarantee. Ideal when matching existing uPVC windows and roofline.

The polyurethane boards look and perform closest to real timber; the uPVC version is a practical, lower-cost alternative that matches standard window and roofline colours.

How do I choose the right Tudor Board width and spacing for my property?

Look at the proportions of your elevation and any existing timber. Narrower boards (100–150 mm) suit smaller or more delicate houses; wider boards (175–225 mm) create a stronger, more traditional statement.

Leave consistent gaps between boards (commonly 300–600 mm centres depending on the design). The goal is visual balance rather than a fixed rule — measure the elevation and sketch the layout before ordering.

How do I cut, handle and install Tudor Board?

Boards are lightweight and cut easily with a fine-tooth saw or jigsaw.

Store them flat and out of direct sunlight while still in packaging — prolonged heat under plastic wrapping can cause temporary bowing.

Installation follows the supplied guide: mark out, drill pilot holes, fix with masonry screws, glue in the pegs, and seal the top edge. Full step-by-step instructions are provided with every order.

What backing, pegs and fixings do I need for Tudor Board?

  • Backing sheet / render panel – recommended when the wall is uneven, damaged, or you want a clean white “rendered” background between the boards.
  • Pegs – decorative plugs that hide the screw heads. Sold in packs of 10 or boards of 64. Allow roughly 10 pegs per 4.2 m board (12 if you have many short lengths).
  • Fixings – 7.5 mm masonry screws (length depends on substrate; check the installation guide).
  • Adhesive / sealant – high-quality modified polymer adhesive or clear silicone for the top edge and cut ends.
  • Touch-up paint for any exposed cuts.

How long does Tudor Board last and how do I maintain it?

Polyurethane boards carry a 15-year guarantee; uPVC boards a 10-year guarantee. Both are designed for external use, resist rot, warping and UV degradation far better than timber, and need virtually no maintenance.

Simply clean occasionally with mild soapy water. Colour may slowly mellow over many years but will not flake. Use matching touch-up paint on any cut edges or minor surface damage.
