Fitting & Usage

The hip end on a TapcoSlate Classic roof is finished using a cut-to-size-and-shape Classic hip tile at the eaves. Hip caps run at a definitive 6" (152mm) exposure throughout, with the final piece cut and shaped to complete the hip end cap weather-tightly.

Preparation

On felt & batten roofs, lay a 24" (600mm) wide strip of underlay over the full hip from eave to ridge, overlapping standard underlay on either side. Fix tiling battens either side of the hip rafter, and fit slating battens flush to these. Confirm the eaves course is in place before fitting the final hip piece.

Application

Maintain a strict 6" (152mm) exposure on all hip caps throughout — this must not be exceeded
Fix all hip caps using minimum 2" (51mm) nails or screws, one either side, through the cap below
Hold the hip cap by the faced side when fixing to avoid pivoting
Cut the final eaves piece to size and angle using a fine-toothed handsaw, jigsaw, circular saw, or sharp utility blade — TapcoSlate cuts without splintering
Nail the shaped eaves piece to the hip rafter and tiling battens; on a boarded roof, fix to a timber fillet
Cover all exposed fastener heads with butyl-based sealant — do not use silicone

Health & Safety

Use appropriate access equipment and follow working-at-height regulations
Caps and slates can be slippery when wet — take care during installation
Below 7°C, hand fasten only — a pneumatic nail gun below this temperature will cause cracking and webbing

Additional Remarks

The minimum number of hip caps per linear metre is 6 at the definitive 6" exposure — do not over-expose
Improper fixing can compromise the roof system and voids the manufacturer's warranty
Stainless steel nails are recommended in coastal areas and in Scotland

Delivery

SHIPPING

We endeavour to despatch most orders within 1 working day. Where possible, orders received before 1:00pm may be despatched the same day. Accurate despatch times are available on individual product pages.

Most orders (those being stock items below 1.2m in length) will be despatched same day when ordered before 1pm, and received the following delivery day. We deliver items of that size from Monday to Saturday. Stock items over 1.2m are sent using a two-day carrier, who do not deliver on a weekend.

Due to the size and nature of some bespoke, and non-stock products, we offer restricted delivery options. Delivery options can be selected at the checkout page before payment Is made.

DELIVERY AND RETURNS

Any dates quoted for delivery of the goods are approximate only and Truly PVC shall not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss suffered by the customer arising from any delay in the delivery of the goods.

All deliveries must be received, and where appropriate, signed for, by a person over the age of 18 years old.

Delivery takes place, and risk passes to you, at the earliest of the following:

When the goods are handed over to you or your agent at Truly PVC’s premises.
When the goods leave the premises of Truly PVC.
On the 7th day after you have been notified that the goods are ready for despatch.

Customers should notify us within 7 days of the invoice date for any alleged defect, damage, failure to comply with description, missing items, or discrepancies. If no notification is made within this period, the goods are deemed accepted and free from defect.

Customers are responsible for obtaining any necessary licences or permissions for importing goods into their country of destination.

Long Lengths (over 1.2m)

For any product over 1.2m in length we cannot guarantee a ‘Next Day’ delivery service. Products over 1.2m have to be manually handled in some Depots and this can often add 1 – 2 days to the delivery time.

DELIVERY PROHIBITIONS

Orders for aerosol items, items over 1m, or deliveries to remote locations (e.g., Scottish Highlands, offshore islands, Northern Ireland) may not be fulfilable or may incur a surcharge.

Should this be the case, we will contact you with the option of either paying the surcharge or cancelling the order. Remote postcodes include AB30-AB38, AB40-AB56, BT, FK17-FK21, G83, GY, HS, IM, IV, JE, KA27-KA28, KW, PA20-PA99, PH, TR21-TR25, ZE.
