Durable and lightweight uPVC replacement top caps with coextruded gaskets for Ultralite 500 lean-to conservatory roof bars. Simple tap-down fitting with choice of profile for both intermediate and starter bars.

Conservatory rafter top caps are exposed to extremes of temperature and conditions, which over time can take their toll. Cappings can lose compression, become brittle crack, and the rubber that seals the top of the glazing material can break down. Such conditions can lead to cold drafts and water ingress. Replacing failed top cappings is a relatively low-cost solution, which will help you enjoy your room once again.

Before purchasing, we recommend that you check compatibility. These cappings are manufactured by Ultraframe for their Ultralite 500 lean-to conservatories. To identify your conservatory roof system, refer to any installation paperwork. Ultralite 500 can be used at a very low pitch, so is commonly used in situations where height is restricted, such as alongside a bungalow. Although it looks quite unique, with it's 60mm thick and 500mm wide panels, similar systems exist and can cause confusion. If you would like help to confirm whether your roof is Ultralite 500, email a couple of pictures.

Choosing the correct capping

Cappings between two inline panels are known as Intermediate Top Caps, whilst cappings at either end of a roof are called Starter Top Caps. There are two types of Starter Top Caps, one for use on the dedicated Ultralite 500 Firring (a 2.5° triangular PVC-u wedge above the lower frame or wall), and a non-firring version that is used without the dedicated firring, typically over a timber wedge.

The correct replacement capping can sometimes be identified by referring to manufacturer part codes printed on the underside of the existing capping. If you do not see any codes, or are reluctant to remove the cappings, then you can compare the profile of your existing capping to the profile drawings shown above.

Fitting & Usage

Fitting the Ultraframe Ultralite 500 Glazing Bar Top Caps

Once cut to length, using an electric chop saw or fine-toothed handsaw, the capping can be easily fitted to the aluminium glazing bar upstand, without any special tools. Simply align the end of the capping with the end of the bar, and knock hooked legs of the capping into the barbed aluminium upstand. This will ensure watertight compression of the top capping flapper seal against the glazing material.

How to Remove Existing Cappings

Removal of existing cappings can be difficult, but there are tools and methods that will help. The top capping legs that lock into the aluminium glazing bar, will need to be unhooked. The Ultraframe Glazing Bar Capping Removal Tool can really help with this, as it features two vertical blades that insert into the end of the bar to release the legs, and then allow an upwards motion to pull the capping out. Long nose pliers, or two flat screwdrivers, can be used in absence of the removal tool. A gasket that may have become stuck to the glazing material can be freed by running a putty knife, or similar, up the length of the capping.

We endeavour to despatch most orders within 1 working day. Where possible, orders received before 1:00pm may be despatched the same day. Accurate despatch times are available on individual product pages.

Most orders (those being stock items below 1.2m in length) will be despatched same day when ordered before 1pm, and received the following delivery day. We deliver items of that size from Monday to Saturday. Stock items over 1.2m are sent using a two-day carrier, who do not deliver on a weekend.

Due to the size and nature of some bespoke, and non-stock products, we offer restricted delivery options. Delivery options can be selected at the checkout page before payment Is made.

DELIVERY AND RETURNS

Any dates quoted for delivery of the goods are approximate only and Truly PVC shall not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss suffered by the customer arising from any delay in the delivery of the goods.

All deliveries must be received, and where appropriate, signed for, by a person over the age of 18 years old.

Delivery takes place, and risk passes to you, at the earliest of the following:

When the goods are handed over to you or your agent at Truly PVC’s premises.
When the goods leave the premises of Truly PVC.
On the 7th day after you have been notified that the goods are ready for despatch.

Customers should notify us within 7 days of the invoice date for any alleged defect, damage, failure to comply with description, missing items, or discrepancies. If no notification is made within this period, the goods are deemed accepted and free from defect.

Customers are responsible for obtaining any necessary licences or permissions for importing goods into their country of destination.

Long Lengths (over 1.2m)

For any product over 1.2m in length we cannot guarantee a ‘Next Day’ delivery service. Products over 1.2m have to be manually handled in some Depots and this can often add 1 – 2 days to the delivery time.

DELIVERY PROHIBITIONS

Orders for aerosol items, items over 1m, or deliveries to remote locations (e.g., Scottish Highlands, offshore islands, Northern Ireland) may not be fulfilable or may incur a surcharge.

Should this be the case, we will contact you with the option of either paying the surcharge or cancelling the order. Remote postcodes include AB30-AB38, AB40-AB56, BT, FK17-FK21, G83, GY, HS, IM, IV, JE, KA27-KA28, KW, PA20-PA99, PH, TR21-TR25, ZE.
