Fitting & Usage

Remove Existing Handle

Turn handle to open position and remove any screw cover caps to reveal screw heads.
Unscrew all fixings, and place the handle to the side.

Fitting the Cockspur Handle

The Yale Sparta Cockspur window handle provides 4 fixing positions, two with 30.5mm centres, and two with 50.5mm centres. Use of all four fixings is recommended for maximum security.

Remove any existing handle, and position new handle over existing fixing holes to reuse, or to conceal them.
Secure the handle to the window
- If using existing holes, then simply secure into place using screws appropriate for the window material. You may be able to reuse the screws from the original handle.
- If making new holes, and using self-drilling screws into a PVCu or aluminium window, then you can use the handle as a jig, and screw the backplate directly onto the window. Otherwise, you will likely need to drill pilot holes.
- If you need to pre-drill pilot holes, then mark fixing positions through the handle backplate, and set the handle aside. Once you have drilled suitable pilot holes, you can reposition and screw fix the handle.
With handle fitted, you can fit any screw cover caps.
Now the handle is fitted, test its operation. If necessary, fit a suitably sized striker plate wedge to the frame to remove any space and ensure a tight closure.

Note: The screws should have a maximum head diameter of 8.5mm, and a maximum thread diameter of 5.2mm, with a length and thread determined by the window material and profile. For example, a uPVC window without reinforcement would require a course thread. Also, consider that larger windows may benefit from two handles, to improve security and weather seal.

Choosing the Correct Handle

Determine Handedness

Cockspur handles are available in left and right versions, the choice of which is usually determined by which hand is used to operate the handle. On side-hung windows, handles are easier to operate when the handle points downwards. So a window hinged on the left, would have a left-handed handle, with a right-hinged window using a right-hand handle.

Determine Handle Step Height

If replacing existing handles - assuming correct fit - you can simply measure the step height of the existing handle, which is the distance from the base of the backplate to the underside of the spur. Otherwise, you should measure the height from the internal face of the window sash to the internal face of the frame.

This can be done by placing a straight edge (such as a debit card) across the face of the frame, and measuring to the straight edge using a steel rule or tape measure (see image).

Determine Wedge Size

If the desired Step Height does not equal 9mm, 15.5mm or 21mm, then you will need a wedge (or striker plate) on the face of the frame. If the Step Height is less than 9mm, then you will need to use a striker plate wedge with the 9mm handle to get a tight closure. If the Step Height is over 9mm or 15.5mm, and less than 21mm, then you will need to use a wedge with the 21mm handle. The following table demonstrates how to achieve a tight closure using wedges.

How to choose the correct handle

Delivery

SHIPPING

We endeavour to despatch most orders within 1 working day. Where possible, orders received before 1:00pm may be despatched the same day. Accurate despatch times are available on individual product pages.

Most orders (those being stock items below 1.2m in length) will be despatched same day when ordered before 1pm, and received the following delivery day. We deliver items of that size from Monday to Saturday. Stock items over 1.2m are sent using a two-day carrier, who do not deliver on a weekend.

Due to the size and nature of some bespoke, and non-stock products, we offer restricted delivery options. Delivery options can be selected at the checkout page before payment Is made.

DELIVERY AND RETURNS

Any dates quoted for delivery of the goods are approximate only and Truly PVC shall not be liable for any direct, indirect or consequential loss suffered by the customer arising from any delay in the delivery of the goods.

All deliveries must be received, and where appropriate, signed for, by a person over the age of 18 years old.

Delivery takes place, and risk passes to you, at the earliest of the following:

When the goods are handed over to you or your agent at Truly PVC’s premises.
When the goods leave the premises of Truly PVC.
On the 7th day after you have been notified that the goods are ready for despatch.

Customers should notify us within 7 days of the invoice date for any alleged defect, damage, failure to comply with description, missing items, or discrepancies. If no notification is made within this period, the goods are deemed accepted and free from defect.

Customers are responsible for obtaining any necessary licences or permissions for importing goods into their country of destination.

Long Lengths (over 1.2m)

For any product over 1.2m in length we cannot guarantee a ‘Next Day’ delivery service. Products over 1.2m have to be manually handled in some Depots and this can often add 1 – 2 days to the delivery time.

DELIVERY PROHIBITIONS

Orders for aerosol items, items over 1m, or deliveries to remote locations (e.g., Scottish Highlands, offshore islands, Northern Ireland) may not be fulfilable or may incur a surcharge.

Should this be the case, we will contact you with the option of either paying the surcharge or cancelling the order. Remote postcodes include AB30-AB38, AB40-AB56, BT, FK17-FK21, G83, GY, HS, IM, IV, JE, KA27-KA28, KW, PA20-PA99, PH, TR21-TR25, ZE.

COLLECTION (from our Warehouse)

To collect your order, choose 'Collect in Person' as the shipping method. We will contact you if there is an issue preparing your order, so please provide a contact telephone number.

Stock items are usually available for collection 1 business day after ordering. For early collection or non-stock items (e.g., polycarbonate), please call 0161 339 4982.
