Cleaning a uPVC Conservatory

It is inevitable that conservatories will begin to look a little tired and grubby if not cared for and failure to clean can accelerate the deterioration of seals etc. It is therefore important that conservatories are given a clean from time to time. The frequency of such is more important with some conservatories than with others. Dependant upon the direction in which your conservatory is facing and where it is located, it may be susceptible to greater build-up of moss, lichens etc. If your conservatory was specified with self-cleaning glass then your work is reduced as it will stay cleaner for longer.

Professionals, who are experienced and have the right materials and access equipment, can be enlisted to clean your conservatory and carry out specialist conservatory roof cleaning. Having access over the roof, they can work more efficiently at close quarters and are able to recognise any potential problem areas. However, there are steps that you can take yourself.

Cleaning a conservatory roof from ground level

Most of the dirt on a conservatory roof can be shifted using a strong spray from an extendable telescopic pole with an integrated, warm soapy water feed. You may need to gently scrub any stubborn stains before rinsing with clean water.

Cleaning a polycarbonate conservatory roof

Polycarbonate roofs may contain chemical coatings to help shield them from the suns UV rays. Therefore, extra careful needs to be taken when cleaning polycarbonate roof sheets as some household cleaners may damage the coating. We recommend that you contact the installers or manufacturers and seek their advice.

As a guide, we would suggest that you:

  • Use mild warm soapy water, then rinse thoroughly with clean water
  • Do not use brushes to scrub polycarbonate
  • Do not use abrasives and cleaners that have an alkaline composition
  • Do not use petrol-based cleaners
  • Avoid cleaning the polycarbonate on very hot days

Cleaning a uPVC window frames and roof cappings

The uPVC on a conservatory will keep nice and clean if washed regularly with simple lukewarm soapy water. However, finding time for conservatory maintenance is often a challenge and people fall behind. If your uPVC frames and conservatory roof bar cappings still look a little grubby after a wash, then you should consider a uPVC cream cleaner, which can remove ingrained dirt and will buff to a deep shine.
