Why are clear gutters important?

Guttering and downpipes play a crucial role in diverting rainwater from the roof to a designated drain, gulley, or water storage system. A blocked gutter or downpipe can cause water damage to your property, resulting in costly repairs. Preventing these blockages not only saves you money in the long run, but also ensures your gutter retains its optimum performance and reduces maintenance requirements.

Fitting & Usage

Fitting the FloPlast Gutter Brush is incredibly easy, which is what you want when working at height.

Before Fitting the Gutter Brush

You should determine that the gutter brush suits the profile of your guttering. The brush fits most domestic square line, half round, and ogee profiles of about 4” width.

  • Ensure that gutter depth is at least half the diameter of the Gutter Brush. The stainless steel spine should not be above the top of the gutter.
  • The brush should fit snugly, with a maximum gap of 5mm either side. It will be much less effective if allowed to 'rattle' and may be blown out of the gutter.
  • Ideally, the bristles should extend slightly above the roofing material.

Fitting the Gutter Brush

  1. Remove any leaves and other debris from the gutter and downpipes.
  2. Starting from one end, lay the brush into the gutter, ensuring that it fits snuggly, with the bristles extending slightly above the roof material.
    • Fold the extended wire core backwards into the bristles, to allow a closer fit to the end of the gutter.
    • The brush can be fed under any hangers, or top hung brackets. Such supports do a great job of helping to keep the brush in place.
  3. Brushes should run continuously along the whole length of the gutter. When necessary, brushes can be joined together by bending the extended wire cores backwards to form hooks, and attaching the two ends together.
  4. Simply run the brush over outlets, and around gutter corners.
  5. Excess brush at the end of a run should be trimmed with wire snips. Trim 50mm (2in) beyond the end, untwist the core to remove the excess bristles, then re-twist and fold back into a hook shape.
  6. If not secured by the overhanging tile nose, or fitted in an extremely windy area, it is recommended that each brush is secured with cable ties. One at either end, and one in the middle should be adequate.

Any accumulation of dirt in the bottom of the gutter will break down naturally, and be washed away with the free-running rainwater.
