Simple and effective UV-stable striker plates for cockspur handles on uPVC, aluminium, and some timber windows. Seal and secure your windows, with these easy-fit durable plastic wedges. Variety Pack contains 14 wedges (two of each colour and size), with individual colour/size options offered in packs of 10.

Designed to fix on the frame under the nose of a closed cockspur handle, wedges remove any slack, to help pull the window shut, and lock out cold and draughts.

Commonly found on older uPVC and aluminium windows without an internal locking mechanism, cockspur window handles feature a spur (or nose) that closes onto the window frame, or a wedge mounted to the frame.

Did you know? Choosing the optimal wedge thickness for your window, and replacing existing wedges for slightly thicker ones, can be a simple way to improve the quality of its seal.

Determine Wedge Size

If your handles are fitted, and your aim is to create a tighter closure of the window, then you need only measure the gap between the frame and the underside of the spur when the window is closed.

Otherwise, you should measure the Step Height, from the internal face of the window sash to the internal face of the frame. This can be done by placing a straight edge (such as a debit card) across the face of the frame, and measuring to the straight edge using a steel rule or tape measure. Then compare this to your handle size, which is likely to be either 9mm or 21mm. Deduct the Step Height from the handle size, to get the required wedge size. A Step Height of 17mm with a handle size of 21mm will require a 4mm wedge.

Fitting & Usage

Remove any existing striker plate wedges from the frame, and decide whether the existing holes can be reused. If they can, apply a small amount of superglue to the studs on the underside of the wedge, and push into place.

If you are installing wedges where no appropriate fixing hole exists, and you have already determined the thickness of wedge required, then follow these step-by-step instructions:

1. Position the wedge centrally to the spur when the window is pulled closed, and mark where the striker plate will sit on the window frame under the nose.
2. Drill two 5mm pilot holes parallel with the edge of the frame with a centre-to-centre gap of 32mm.
3. Apply a small amount of superglue to the studs on the underside of the wedge, and push into place.
