Fixed Window Cable Restrictor

(Available in White or Brown)

Fit and forget window security!

Strong hardened steel cable and fixing plates, with durable plastic covers that provide an attractive easy-care finish. Allows windows to be opened for ventilation, whilst keeping the room secure, and the vulnerable safe.

Fixed cable restrictors are ideal for hospitals, mental institutions, nurseries, schools, hotels etc, as they stop windows from being fully opened, to prevent accidents and maintain security. Fixed restrictors must not be used on fire escape windows.

Features & Benefits

  • Always-On Security - gives permanent restriction
  • Quick and Easy Fitting - can be installed in minutes
  • Highly Versatile - suits all windows and doors
  • Safe and Secure - keeps people in, and out
  • Exceptionally Strong - withstands forces over 1000N
  • Safe Ventilation - allows air to circulate securely
  • Durable Steel Parts - resists oxidisation and corrosion
  • Long-Lasting Appearance - colourfast UV resistance
  • Trusted Quality - tested to EN 13126-5:2011 + A1:2014

Unlike other manufacturers who measure strength on cable tests alone, these restrictors have been whole unit tested, including fixing block, plate and cable plug, to ensure no weak links.

What You Get

Each key-locking cable restrictor is supplied with the following:

  • Cable Plates with Covers (x2)
  • Cable
  • Fixing Screws (x4)

Did you know? The Royal Association for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) reports that each year over 4,000 children under the age of 15 fall out of a window. Window cable restrictors are a simple, affordable and effective solution to those unnecessary accidents.

Fitting & Usage

The following describes fitting of the cable restrictor to a typical window.

  1. Firstly, determine the maximum opening that you require (100mm or 89mm for child safety), how many cable restrictors you need, and where they should be fitted. Refer to Fitting Considerations for help with these decisions.
  2. Hold a Cable Plate in desired position on the frame, and mark the screw positions. Set aside and drill a 2mm pilot hole at each screw position.
  3. Reposition the Cable Plate and secure to the frame using two of the supplied fixing screws.
  4. Open window to desired maximum opening, and position the second Cable Plate so that it sits flat on the window and the cable is taut. Mark screw positions on the window. Consider that any slack on the cable would mean that the window may open wider than desired.
  5. Let go of the Cable Plate and drill a 2mm pilot hole at each screw position, then secure the Cable Plate with the two remaining fixing screws.
  6. You can now test your restrictor, to ensure that the window does not open more than the desired maximum.
  7. If the restrictor works as intended, you can push the plastic screw cover caps into place on the two plates.

Note that the above principle also applied to use of the restrictor on a door.

Fitting Considerations

To comply with window and balcony door safety requirements (EN 13126-5:2011 + A1:2014), opening should be restricted to a maximum gap of 100mm, or 89mm where child safety is a consideration. When being pushed open, the restrictor should take a minimum load of 35Kg. Therefore, it may be necessary to fit multiple restrictors. It is recommended that restrictors are fitted to the side opposite the hinges, and that if one restrictor is used, then it is fitted centrally.

Detail fitting cable restrictor to window

To meet European safety standards, the maximum opening should 100mm, which should be reduced to 89mm for child safety.

Cable Restrictor Maintenance

The cable restrictor can be kept looking good, and operating well, with just an occasional wipe using a damp cloth, and a little light oil.
